Legal Service Plan
The NJSOP Personal Services Legal Plan is the most inexpensive way to protect yourself and your practice.
Our counsel has served the NJSOP since 1978 and has a wealth of experience in all types of litigation including representation before regulatory boards and agencies. The firm offers prompt, informed advice and assistance to optometrists on investigatory inquiries before New Jersey regulatory boards and state agencies and on any matters relating to the practice of optometry.
How can I take advantage of the plan?
The NJSOP Legal Service Plan is provided FREE to all full paying dues members at the 6th year member level. Members at the 1st through 5th year membership levels, partial practice members, residents, those receiving a waiver, and practicing Life members can purchase this benefit January - September for $50. Contact Edna McKinney to enroll.
What is provided through the plan?
The plan provides for up to two hours of consultation and/or representation from Mr. James A. Schragger, Esq. - Schragger, Schragger and Lavine, P.C. with the following features and benefits:
●All inquiries by the NJ State Board of Optometrists, or other state regulatory boards, with regard to your practice of optometry, asking for information which may be used in a possible future hearing.
●Telephone availability when a State investigator arrives at your door.
●A thorough review of the conduct or activity which may be the subject of an inquiry against a covered doctor.
●A telephone consultation with a covered doctor in order to formulate an appropriate course of action.
●Review of records, documents and submissions to a state regulatory board regarding your practice of optometry (not only the New Jersey State Board of Optometrists but also any other regulatory board).
● Attendance at conferences with any state board, its investigators or the Attorney General’s Office on behalf of a covered doctor.
●General telephone advice assisting and interpreting the Optometry Act and Regulations.
●General telephone consultation related to the operation of an optometric practice.
● All of the above are limited to two hours of cost-free legal consultation and/or representation. (Additional time is billed at the discounted professional fee of $300 per hour.)

More reliable than an online forum and more convenient than a list of phone numbers, the NJSOP Listserve is an email-based tool which allows members to post questions and concerns of any magnitude and receive feedback from the over 600 Society members throughout the State. Our search feature enables patients to find a skilled NJSOP Optometric Physician by name, city, zip code or radius search. In 2012 the Find-A-Doc tool received over 28,000 hits in no small part due to an NJ.com ad campaign linking readers back to the Find-A-Doc page. Always eager to promote our member optometrist’s offices, the Find-A-Doc tool is one of the most valuable member benefits we offer to growing practices throughout the state.
For students, the Find-A-Doc tool provides an easy way to become familiar with the optometrists who are located in the area you most wish to practice. Just type in the zip code, choose a radius and hit search!

The NJSOP strives to promote Optometry to the public and works hard to keep the lines of communication open to our members. We continue to increase public awareness of optometry through grass-roots public relations media campaigns, tradeshows, sponsorships and advertising campaigns.

The ads convey sports vision and 3D vision messages and encourage visitors to visit the NJSOP Find-A-Doc page to schedule a comprehensive eye exam for the family.
Additionally, NJSOP memebers can rely on the Society to help them with their own office advertising; Ready-to-go, customizable advertisements and press releases can be downloaded from the members only section of the website at any time.

The NJSOP strives to promote Optometry to the public and works hard to keep the lines of communication open to our members. We continue to increase public awareness of optometry through grass-roots public relations media campaigns, tradeshows, sponsorships and advertising campaigns.

The NJSOP Personal Services Legal Plan is the most inexpensive way to protect yourself and your practice.
Our counsel has served the NJSOP since 1978 and has a wealth of experience in all types of litigation including representation before regulatory boards and agencies. The firm offers prompt, informed advice and assistance to optometrists on investigatory inquiries before New Jersey regulatory boards and state agencies and on any matters relating to the practice of optometry.
How can I take advantage of the plan?
The NJSOP Legal Service Plan is provided FREE to all full paying dues members at the 6th year member level. Members at the 1st through 5th year membership levels, partial practice members, residents, those receiving a waiver, and practicing Life members can purchase this benefit January - September for $50. What is provided through the plan?
The plan provides for up to two hours of consultation and/or representation from Mr. James A. Schragger, Esq. - Schragger, Schragger and Lavine, P.C. with the following features and benefits:
●All inquiries by the NJ State Board of Optometrists, or other state regulatory boards, with regard to your practice of optometry, asking for information which may be used in a possible future hearing.
●Telephone availability when a State investigator arrives at your door.
●A thorough review of the conduct or activity which may be the subject of an inquiry against a covered doctor.
●A telephone consultation with a covered doctor in order to formulate an appropriate course of action.
●Review of records, documents and submissions to a state regulatory board regarding your practice of optometry (not only the New Jersey State Board of Optometrists but also any other regulatory board).
● Attendance at conferences with any state board, its investigators or the Attorney General’s Office on behalf of a covered doctor.
