→ Updates in the Treatment & Management of Diabetic Retinopathy -- What Every Optometrist Should Know

This course will provide up-to-date information on diabetic retinopathy (DR). Emphasis will be on the ODs role in Diabetes by incorporating the latest in diagnostic modalities and therapeutic advances for vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy VTDR, proliferative DR and diabetic macular edema DME.

→ Amblyopia Evidence-Based Management for the Primary Care OD
Marilyn Vricella, OD - 1 hr NJSBO Regular Credit/COPE # 78768-FV
This lecture reviews the evidence and discusses recent theories on amblyopia and the various treatment options available. Treatment options in children, the studies in clinical trials that support these treatment options, and how they can be implemented in patient care will be discussed. Each treatment option indications, advantages, and potential complications will be reviewed. Future therapeutic modalities that are on the horizon will also be discussed.

This course will discuss the diagnosis and treatment of the most common infant and preschool ocular conditions we face in primary care optometry.

→ Contemporary Keratoconus

This course provides a review of the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment options, and advancements in keratoconus.


Meet the Summer CE Speakers

Joy Harewood, OD is a graduate of the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. She has extensive experience in hospital-based eye care and for six years was the first full time optometrist performing inpatient consults at Northwell Health’s Staten Island University Hospital campus. She was named the inaugural Director for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at SUNY College of Optometry in 2020, along with being appointed as an Associate Clinical Professor.

Steven Sorkin, OD  earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY Optometry. He lectures extensively throughout the country and internationally on contact lenses, dry eyes, ocular allergies, ocular therapeutics, and corneal disease. He has a special interest in difficult to fit contact lens patients, such as those with keratoconus and post surgical cases and manages many patients with complex anterior segment conditions.

Marilyn Vricella, OD is a graduate of SUNY College of Optometry where she is currently an associate clinical professor in the Pediatrics and Infant Vision Department of the University Eye Center and the Pediatric Residency Director. Dr. Vricella has lectured both nationally and internationally and has numerous professional publications. She has been in private practice for over ten years and was recognized by Newsweek as one of America’s Best Eye Doctors 2021.
